High Tea the way it should be !

It is an English tradition,  and one that Queen Victoria was especially fond of , so why do so few places  know how to serve  Afternoon tea ? 
Thankfully Downton Lodge is a real exception to the rule, and  prides itself on  reviving this  nostalgic  pastime treat. Whether you choose to take tea outside in the sunny Italian influenced garden courtyard, surrounded by rolling Shropshire countryside, or inside in the cosy  beamed lounge you will not be disappointed .

 It arrives  beautifully presented on a linen covered tea trolley with china crockery and  immaculate silverware. The choice is tempting and not for the fainthearted, alongside the large pot of tea  is a  platter of delicate sandwiches with fillings of  smoked salmon, herring, local duck egg mayonnaise and wafer thin cucumber.  Then there are fresh baked scones with cream and  home made preserves, including a lime marmalade to try, rich fruit cake, buttery shortbread and lavender  biscuits. To finish there is the most deliciously tangy lemon posset  and Pimms jelly served in a glass with fresh strawberries, what more can I say !

So make a date, and enjoy a perfect afternoon  with a  taste of the high life and Hi-Tea served the way it should be.
